Me, In Three Parts

My introduction to visual design came as an early teenager. I became enthralled with the music scene and graphic design went hand-in-hand. I was enamored with the blend of unique colors, symmetric shapes, and unique blends of artistic ideas that graphic designers of the mid to late 00’s were incorporating. It wasn’t the immediate path I took but it left a lifelong impression.

As I grew older and eventually finished a degree in music composition, I began to encounter more and more things that bothered me in terms of visual design. “Why is this button here?” “These colors hurt my eyes,” and “Well that was confusing” were some of the phrases I found myself muttering under my breath as I went about my days not realizing I was making small design critiques.

The aspect of design that fascinates me the most is that you’re communicating with someone, the user, about how to interact with an app or product. It’s taking a moment and saying “I think this is nice but does it translate to someone else?” being able to communicate with others is a trait I find highly valuable, and the ability to do so is practiced naturally.
